Institute of Educational Sciences
The Institute of Educational Sciences was established in 2014 when the Department of Education, the Department of Andragogy, Community Culture and Education, and the Department of Minority Studies joined. The Department of Education became the Department of Pedagogy. The Department of Minority Studies started to function as Working Party of Minority Studies as a part of the Department of Pedagogy.
The Institute of Educational Sciences has got two departments:
Department of Andragogy, Community Culture and Education:
Our department trains adult education experts whose knowledge of pedagogical history, psychology, law, economics, and sociology acquired via a thorough study of governmental institutions, municipal governments, business enterprises, and the labour market enable them to perform direct planning, organizing, evaluation, managing, leisure time, human resource management, and consultancy related tasks in institutions, organizations, and other official entities dedicated to general education. Furthermore, the acquired theoretical knowledge will enable graduates to continue their studies in second cycle M.A. programs, and they can also go on and broaden their knowledge at the Educational Sciences Doctoral Program.

- Undivided Teacher Training Program:
- Community Culture Management (in Hungarian, with specific courses available in English)
- Master's Program in Teacher Education (MED):
- Teacher of Leisure Time Counselling (in Hungarian, with specific courses offered in English)
Department of Pedagogy
The Department of Pedagogy came into being with the moving of the pedagogical college from Debrecen to the Lyceum in Eger through the nationalization in the year of 1949-50.
The short history of the Department of Pedagogy:
- • 1949 – Establishing the Department of Pedagogy
- • 1975 – Establishing Department of Education Science including the Working Groups of Pedagogy, Psychology and Community Culture and Education
- • 1989 – The Working Groups of Community Culture and Education seceded from the Department
- • 1990 – The Working Groups of Psychology seceded from the Department
- • 2007 – The Department of Education started to work as an independent part of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Knowledge Technology
- • 2014 – Establishing the Institute of Education Science including the Department of Pedagogy and Department of Andragogy, Community Culture and Education
The Department of Pedagogy offers wide range of courses from the field of education science. The view of the department represents the unity of theory and practice of education. The courses of the educational programs cover most area of education science as they include history of education; economy and culture; minority communities; education philosophies and social theories; models and strategies in teaching and learning process; classroom management; educational technology; distance education; general research methodology and educational measurement and so on. The department has both Bachelor's and Master's programs as well as postgraduate specialist training courses for professionals.
